Oak Ridge, TN
Partnering with Studio Four Design, Genesis Interiors furnished a bright, interactive and immersive learning center for the City of Oak Ridge. The program of the new Pre-K is divided into three zones: administrative, developmental, and classroom learning; therefore, the furnishings reflected the needs of each area.
The administrative area features products by KI and OFS in the shared office space, private offices, and a full-sized conference room; and the fourteen classrooms are outfitted with child-sized furniture by Jonti-Craft.
The importance of scale and reconfigurability are evident throughout the school’s furnishings. At a transitional point in the children’s lives, the design of the school and furniture within mix the familiar “home” environment and social-learning aspects of the classroom. Furnishings were intentionally selected for reconfigurability to accommodate evolving curriculum and active students.
The design uses accent colors sparingly, and as a way to organize the interior program of the school. Similarly, the furniture mimics the architectural design in this way. Warm, natural maple is the common thread tying all the spaces together.
